Paris Saint-Germain extended their lead at the top of the Ligue 1 table with a comfortable victory over Nice on Sunday. The French champions have now won four of their last five matches and sit three points clear of second-placed Lyon. In contrast, Lille suffered a narrow defeat against Strasbourg, leaving them in fourth place and just one point ahead of fifth-placed Marseille. However, this result was not without controversy as Strasbourg striker Adama Traoré was sent off for a late tackle on PSG's Marco Verratti. Elsewhere, Monaco continued their impressive form by beating Rennes 4-0 at the Stade Louis II. The win means that the Principality club has now scored 18 goals in their last six games, which is the best run in any division in Europe. At the bottom end of the table, there were few highlights as Angers lost 3-1 to Reims and Nantes were held to a goalless draw by Troyes. This leaves both teams still in the relegation zone and with a tough fight ahead of them if they want to avoid the drop. Overall, it was another exciting round of action in Ligue 1, with many sides fighting for positions in the top half of the table. As the season progresses, it will be interesting to see who emerges victorious from this intense battle for supremacy in France's premier league. |
